Accounts Receivable Role:
Accounts Receivable is the department that deals with the money a company receives for its goods and services. Many companies offer “terms” to their clients, allowing them to be invoiced and have a set period of time, often 30 days, in which to make payment without incurring penalties. While there are many different payment terms offered, and those methods will vary depending on the industry, the main purpose behind Accounts Receivable is the same. This department keeps track of the money the company is owed. It also keeps track of which clients are paying late. Accounts Receivable has an analytical aspect as well. Monies due are tallied for each project and department.
Other Duties:
- Issue invoices for goods and/or services rendered
- Establish which customers are to receive terms and what those terms will be, as well as the circumstances under which terms are to be offered
- Follow up with customers to ensure timely receipt of payment
- Receive payments and apply to customer accounts and projects accordingly
- Negotiate payments and adjust delivery schedules as applicable
- Maintain an invoicing system
- Develop efficient payment systems
